Texas Officials: Slavery was not just a side issue in the Civil War. Don't lie to our Students.

In a jaw-dropping and shameful rewrite of history, the new Texas state curriculum teaches students that slavery was just a side issue of the Civil War, and barely mentions the Ku Klux Klan or Jim Crow laws. It's a brazen attempt to whitewash the pas, and it comes at the price of filling young minds with lies.
I can’t pick and choose which parts of history we learn. While repulsive, these events are important parts of America’s history. Truths can’t be ignored just because they’re unpleasant or inconvenient.
5 million Public School Students in Texas are about to start using history textbooks that barely address America’s racial history and call slavery a side issue in the Civil War.
It’s revisionist BS of the worst kind to argue that slavery wasn’t the predominant issue that caused the U.S. Civil War. For 150 years, students have been taught that, and for good reason, it's the truth. Now Texas wants to whitewash the past?
The Civil War is an important part of U.S.A. History and Scholars agree that Slavery was the primary cause. By whitewashing our past of slavery and racism, it minimizes the unimaginable struggles millions of slaves went through. I can’t ignore the past. Learning the full U.S.A. full and true History is the best way to ensure we are on the path to a better future. I should not fill our Students' Heads with bald-faced lies.
