Dear Professor Vasilios Gikas,
Thank you for sending a congratulatory note to domestic workers in Massachusetts. Domestic Workers from the Massachusetts Coalition really appreciated it!
Massachusetts Coalition cheering
Domestic workers were on the frontline of this victory, organizing across the state and sharing their stories with lawmakers. Together with our coalition partners, we demonstrated the power of coming together to win policy changes.
As you know, our victory in Massachusetts comes at a crucial time for our movement. By showing that it’s possible to treat workers with dignity and respect, it paves the way for real change for workers across the country.
We can’t be stopped!
Last weekend, the National Domestic Workers Alliance Director, Ai-jen Poo was on Moyers & Company talking about our vision for a new economy that works for all of us. Watch the short segment here: http://billmoyers.com/…/segment-rising-voices-for-a-new-ec…/
It’s not just Bill Moyers who’s sharing the story of our movement. Scroll down for some of the great coverage of our victory in Massachusetts:
Boston Globe; Governor Patrick signs Domestic Workers Bill of Rights into law
Boston Herald; New law extends protections to domestic workers
WGBH; Domestic Workers Bill Now Law
WBSM; New Law Protects Mass. Domestic Workers
Daily Free Press, Mass. domestic workers secure rights, benefits from state
And last month, domestic workers brought the voices of our movement to Washington, DC for the White House Summit on Working Families. The summit focused on issues facing working families – domestic workers, CEOs, young parents, and baby boomers looking for professional support to care for aging parents.
Our members shared our vision of an economy where all work is treated with dignity and respect and all workers can provide for their families. You can watch highlights from the Summit here: http://workingfamiliessummit.org/
With all of this momentum behind us, our movement can only get bigger!
Together we can make real change!
Thank you!
